KONUS Spotting Scope
Rent A Scope - Special offer below! $10.00 from each sale goes to the Junior Shooting Program!
$255.00 with shipping Pay Now With PayPal During the 2005 National Championships at Camp Perry Ohio, I picked up a new scope company by the name of “KONUS.” One of their scopes is a 80mm, 20 to 60 power zoom. The scope rotates within a band; you can put the eyepiece at any angle you want. The sunshade comes out over the objective lens. The scope is rubber coated. I put this scope through a series of test. I even started to compare it to the Kowa 821M, 82mm scope. I gave it 11 test and it passed 10 of the 11 as compared to the Kowa TSN-821M. The KONUS is bright and clear when set on the 20-power setting. It gets darker on the 40 and 60 power settings, but all zoom eyepieces get darker when set on the higher power. The KONUS could give a readable mirage under normal conditions just like the Kowa 821M. The KONUS could also pick up a readable mirage under low light conditions just like the Kowa 821M. Both scopes could pick up .223 bullet holes at both 200 yards and sometimes at 300 yards depending on conditions. Keep in mind the targets at Camp Perry are made of Cardboard. If the targets are made of Styrofoam or other materials, both scopes will have a harder time picking up the holes. If the shot holes are on the white line or in the white numbers, both scopes will have a harder time seeing the holes. Both scopes will focus down to 33 feet for small bore. Both scopes could pick up the break of the bullet at 200, 300 and 600 yards. Both scopes can be used to get a shooter on paper at 1,000 yards. I left the KONUS scope out in a down pour for 45 min. and it did not fog up. The similarities of the two scopes were remarkable. Now for the differences
The Kowa 821M has a 27 Power LER or Long Eye Relief eyepiece. This means you
can wear shooting glasses and get your full field of view.
The KONUS has a fixed 20-60X-zoom eyepiece. When you look through the eyepiece with out glasses you can see your target and two targets to both the right and left of yours at 600 yards. With glasses, you can see your target and one target both the right and left of yours at 600 yards. PRICE The Kowa 821M now days runs over $900.00 for the Scope, Eyepiece, cover and shipping. The KONUS is $245.00 and that includes the scope, eyepiece, a soft carry case, a tripod that has adjustable elevation and Windage knobs and a camera attachment is included. Plus $10.00 shipping. $10.00 from each sale will be donated to the Camp Perry Retired Marines, Inc. Junior Program. Rent-A-Scope When you buy this scope from me, I will make you an offer. You put down a $100.00 deposit, then pay $145.00 for the scope and $10.00 shipping for a total of $255.00. At any later date you decide to up-grade to a Kowa or just plain decide to quite shooting and you no longer want or need the scope, I will refund your $100.00 deposit (The optics must be in good condition.) I will then donate it to a Junior Team. You can keep it for as long as you like and I will buy it back for $100.00 and donate it to a Junior Team. That is like you have rented it for $145.00 for the time you have had it. If you can find a better deal, I would be interested in knowing. There is one catch; this offer expires when I do.
